Adieu Michael, You are the greatest!
The Brazilian grand prix was one in which mathematics predicted a lot of combinations for every team. For every Ferrari and Schumacher fan, nothing ever could explain the feeling of going into the final race with knowing that the championship was not going to be ours. Nonetheless, what was in store for all crazy fans was the best, the greatest race ever.
Each of the overtake maneuvers by Michael was a joy to watch, I am just rewinding it and replaying it in my mind again and again. Starting from 10th, a punctured tire made an early pit stop necessary. Down to 17th! At that moment, it felt as if all was lost. But it was then the greatest driver decided that the already typed results had to go to drain. It was easy to pass the back markers and soon Michael was in 10th place, for a moment only because Doornbos took to safety of pits [no offence, but he couldn’t have stood no chance against this Michael]. Soon Kubica was in firing line. Michael sling shot past him in classic overtaking maneuver. Then all of sudden, the Ferrari slowed, Kubica overtook Michael. All hot blood in Kubica couldn’t hold Michael. Next lap, the same turn, same maneuver! Kubica will have dreams of Michael doing overtaking him for long, if he’s a lover of racing.
In front was Rubens, old mate. [Radio] Michael’s behind you. He’s racing you, repeat, he’s racing you! [Radio] Well, it was Honda racing engineer telling Rubens not to think that Michael’s a lap down. Michael gathered momentum in the slope and headed into the corner, sling-shot past the Honda. Great move!
Now another Renault, though not Alonso’s. How I wish it was! Fisichella did all he could. The track had two perfect overtaking corners. Michael had overtaken everyone at the same one and it was time for Giancarlo. Giancarlo is a good driver, and has a great car, one with the near perfect traction system. This time, Michael threatened him and Giancarlo couldn’t hold on. He braked late and slid off the track. Would Alonso have done it? No one can say it unless it happens. To me, only Alonso stands equal to Michael, not even Kimi comes near.
All these were kid’s stuff compared to the Kimi Raikonen overtake! Michael was blocked and denied of space in the first time he tried. Perfectly done! Defensive driving was not going to get Kimi anywhere. The Ferrari wanted blood! Gathering speed at the turn and braking late, Michael went inside Kimi’s McLaren. That sight cannot be penned down. Into the turn at 300 kmph, with the wall on Michael’s left and Kimi’s wheel almost touching, only the best of the best could have pulled it off. Michael overtook Kimi there! What a move, I was jumping in my seat! Clapping, hardly able to control myself. This was great stuff. Now in fourth place, Michael could do no more. Only two laps to go and Jensen was 5 seconds ahead. Alonso a further second and
F1 had its champion secured behind the blues, while a promise wore green instead of scarlet. This race belonged to many, Alonso for defending the championship, Renault for securing its consecutive constructors championship by giving their drivers superb cars, Ferrari for coming back from behind and giving Alonso a run for his champagne, then Felipe, can’t say how happy everyone’s for him. If the team is going for a leader, I do hope it would be Felipe.
Ah, the race of the century. Lots of ifs and buts, nothing gonna change the result so let it be so. So shall it be!
